Mrs. Knapp’s Scottish Scones

Mrs. Knapp’s Scottish Scones Recipe


2 cups flour
2 tbsp sugar
2 tsps baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp nutmeg


  • Cut in 1/2 cup of margarine
  • Add 1 cup of raisins
  • Add 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • Knead on floured surface
  • Pat into circles
  • Cut into wedges
  • Placed on greased cookie sheet
  • Bake 12-15 minutes at 425 degrees

If doubling the recipe, bake an additional 20-25 minutes


Allowing the margarine to come to room temperature will result in loftier scones.  Freezes well
